North Fork is six miles from Bass Lake, one of California's oldest and most scenic fishing and boating resorts. It is also only 40 minutes from the southern entrance to one of the world's most beautiful areas, Yosemite National Park.

North Fork visitors are just a stone's throw away from many other activities located in the 1,300,000 acres of the Sierra National Forest which borders the town.

A small lake located 1.6 miles north of North Fork on Willow Creek. it is stocked with rainbow trout through the summer months. It is a comfortable, secluded spot for picnicking as well as family fishing.

Also visit: Whisky Falls, Redinger Lake, Kerkoff Lake, Goat Mountain Lookout Trail.

The North Fork Mono Tribe is the original inhabitant of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The tribe consists of two clans: the golden eagle and the coyote, both of which are represented at the entrance to the museum. The Mono way of life is featured in the museum through examples of fishing, hunting, acorn gathering, cooking, healing, basketmaking, games and ceremonies. Also featured is the Tettleton Wildlife Collection, one of the finest in California.

Beautiful mountain country awaits you! The Sierra Vista Scenic Byway is one of the most beautiful drives in all of California. Few folks even know about this gorgeous Sierra Nevada route just south of Yosemite. The entire stretch from North Fork to the exit point on Highway 41, past Nelder Grove, takes approximately five hours - plus time for breathtaking scenery stops!

Sierra Vista BywayThe Byway is a seasonal route and some parts of the road are blocked by snow during the winter months since they are not plowed or maintained during the winter. The Byway is generally open from June through October. If a trip is being planned for the Spring or the Fall months, call ahead to the Minarets Ranger District (559-877-2218) to check road and weather conditions.

It is one of those towns where you drop in and find true hospitality. You'll enjoy visiting the shops, talking with the locals, and discovering items not found in malls.

You'll find old fashioned quality merchandise, crafts from our old west days, and if you want to go fishing or camping you'll find supplies to take along with you.
